Garden Hose Storage Solutions

With spring just around the corner in most of North America its time to turn your attention to the upcoming outside yard and garden activities. Getting a jump on your garden and lawn care is a good way to start off the growing season. Right at the start of the season provides a golden opportunity to tackle one of the thorniest problems of the summer months, the storage your water and garden hoses. first of all I think that there is actually four main options to handle this situation and they each have their drawbacks.
1. You could just leave the garden hose in a tangled pile on
the ground or partially strewn out in the yard. That’s the easy way to do it and it
doesn’t take much effort. Something I can really relate to. But unfortunately
it can look mighty unsightly and actually be a hazard for tripping over. So, it is probably best to rule out this choice, if there are children around, you really think your wife’s good with this idea, or your neighbors like to express their opinions without being asked. Seriously, so lets move on to some practical solutions.
2. A open bucket or something like a round basket can make for a decorative holder to store a coiled garden hose. This is probably the most eye pleasing solution to storing a coiled water hose. The main problem with this concept is that after about a month of rolling the hose back up for storage you most likely will revert back to invoking solution number 1.
3.The half circle piece of steel. Just a basic storage solution consisting of a ring like structure attached to the side of your house for looping a garden hose over. Not a bad fix, but you have elements of the fist two options involved. A wound up garden hose draped around a piece of metal against the side of your house is not overly aesthetic, and once again, the time and effort to hang the hose around the garden hose holder.

4. Finally, there’s the hand crank garden hose roller. this comes as an open reel style of roller or can be enclosed in it’s own covered housing. These type of garden hose rollers can be either attached to a permanent structure like the side of a house, mounted fixed in place on the ground, or built into a wheeled cart. The key to choosing the right one of these for your solution should be determined by the length of hose you require. The wheeled carts main advantage is that you can haul around a much longer hose, or even a rubber water hose with much less effort. I find that anything longer than a fifty foot garden hose can get to be a burden without the aid of a wheeled hose reel cart.
