I got one of these over a year ago. For the first 8 months, it was a joy to use. It is one of the easiest to handle weed pullers I’ve ever owned (I have at least 6 at any one time).
Well, it got a lot of use for the first 5 months. The last of those five months, I noticed that the ‘weed eject’ function wasn’t quite so smooth as before, and it took a light kick on the lever arm to release weeds. Still, it worked.
Winter came and went, and I’ve been plucking weeds like mad for the last month. Today, my Uproot weeder cracked at the base of the nylon surround for one of the 4 metal blades. It does not appear to be a repairable fault.
I don’t know if this is typical or not, but it’s increasingly hard to find these — and Fiskars has a new model out, with only one blade that seems to work fairly well (I have one of these also). It could be that they quietly dropped the model because of a breakage problem.

I never thought I’d pay $30 for a weed puller but, having tried a few cheaper types of weeding tools, I figured I had to do something. Frankly, I was so skeptical that I didn’t throw the box out or even remove the attached instruction card — so convinced was I that I would be returning it.
Well, I have been using it for the last couple of days and I am so pleased with it I’ve just ordered another one (so my spouse can get out there and pull those *$@#*(&@#_ weeds too!).
Okay, I can’t say that I had FUN exactly, but I have to admit I was almost happy to find another dandelion or thistle just for the sheer joy of pulling it up without the slightest effort. It successfully yanked up large-rooted weeds in my lawn area, in a bare soil area and in a section covered in wood chips (although the wood chips proved harder to remove from the tines).
You have to position the tool carefully over the center of the weed (although if don’t, it’s no big deal, you just give it another shot). And yes, it doesn’t pull up the entire tap root (you’d need three sticks of dynomite to do that) but it gets up enough of the root mass that it’s doubtful the darned thing will grow again.
I highly recommend this tool and I feel that, despite its high initial cost, it can definitely save money on less effective tools or — heaven forbid — chemical herbicides!

This is our second Fiskar 7870 Weeder. Every yard needs one.
We have tried other brands. This is the best. Hard to find the model 7870.
The new Fiskar Weeder has only 3 blades for weeds. Fiskar should stay with 4 blades, which the 7870 has.

I have a number of pruners including a Felco and a Fisker power gear pruner. Both are fine pruners, but the powergear really is intended to be used by a righty. Which my wife is.
I am a lefty and short of buying the Felco lefty pruner I thought I would give this a shot. I am glad I did. First the handles are very comfortable. Excellent shape to them. The most comfortable handles I have ever used on a pruner. Second it is very maunervable. You can get to branches from any angle and direction. And I do want to point out that is really hand-neutral. My wife likes it just as much as I do. Of much less importance it looks cool. All black.
But bottom-line is you get an excellent performing pruner with extremely comfortable handles at a very good price. Great choic for a lefty or righty.
Raymond G. Brosius
Great pruner. Reasonably priced. Easy on the hand, ergonomically correct and well balanced. Sharp as a razor.

These met expectations. They seem very sturdy. My only complaint is that the lock to keep the shears closed is hard to operate. I have to try to flip it a few times before it actually locks.

A while back I attended a lecture at an old house nearby. While poking around the property we spied some ingenious looking trimmers that were mounted on wheels. The perfect thing for edging lawns! When I saw these long handled shears in This Old House magazine they looked to be the closest thing (albeit without wheels). They are light and well balanced. The blades seem to cut nicely and I like the fact that the blade lock is easily located on the top. The blades are rather short, so you have to make lots and lots of cuts to edge a bed. Naturally, this leads to a very tired hand. The shears are easy to use in either hand, although I am pretty ambidextrous so it may just be me. I have found that something of a scythe movement enables me to cut through grass somewhat easier and quicker. I have an aversion to gas powered weed wackers as they are noisy and smelly. They are far more effective than these shears which I was hoping would not be the case. All in all, if I had just a small area to edge, these shears would be great. For a large lawn or many flower beds, they just don’t "cut it."
Rodchester
I like the idea behind the tool. It’s light enough to work for an hour or better without too much strain. The adjustable angle works well and has enough settings to be practical for a number of uses. However, I found that the metal on the blades is too soft and nicks too easily, which, due to the cutting angle, causes the shears to hang up and fail to cut.
Jay
light weight and easy to use. sticks when trying to cut a large amount but works great for simple trimming.

These are very rugged, and won’t rust because they are aluminum. If there ever is a problem they are covered by a lifetime warranty by fiskars, so I don’t really see how you could go wrong. There is no way you could break these things under any sort of normal use.

Really this Is a great set of garden tools with GREAT handles. Non bendable or breakable.
Well worth the money for any gardner.
I’ve had cheaper one’s that just don’t make It or they bend easily.
You won’t be sorry with this set.
C. Hinson
I bought these because they would fit in the Fiskars Garden Bucket Caddy that I ordered at the same time. I was kind of leery at first because the handles looked large. A lot of the garden tools you find these days, especially the ones with soft handles, have such large handles that they are practically unusable for women like me with small hands. I have only had them for a few days, but they seem well made and durable.
I would recommend them to anyone, but especially to people with small hands.

You open the gift box. Yes! it’s just what you wanted! You drop the wrapping paper, leave the wine glass, and the astonished friends, you zoom out to the garden even though it’s perfectly dark by now, and you find that dandelion illuminated by the front door’s light. You heft the hori hori in your hand. You are a warrior. You are invincible. The enemy will die. This sturdy, hefty tool feels great in the palm of your hand. It easily slides into the soil alongside the offending dandy. A little pressure, and pop! the root, the leaves, the whole rosette of the heinous green Medusa is air born like a cork out of a bottle. You think yes! finally! the war is over, I am The Gardener.
Antonio C. Dittmann
I’ve had it only twelve hours and wonder how I ever got along in the garden without it. What a wonderful tool! I have already used it as a trowel for planting; the blade made short work of an interfering tree root. I loosened weed roots in a flower bed for easy removal without disturbing a lot of soil, and pried weeds from the cracks in the sidewalk. Edging along the front walk was a breeze. I like it that there is a hole in the handle for easy hanging, too.
C. J. Rose
I bought the Hori Hori stainless steel garden knife because an equivalent product that I had purchased previously broke after a few months of use. That tool (a Fiskars product) worked fine until a design flaw in the handle resulted in the handle coming apart. The Hori Hori knife has a very robust handle and blade which allows it to survive the stresses induced when I pry out tough weeds. One feature that the Fiskars product had that I really liked was a groove cut into the pointed end of the blade. That grove was very useful in grabbing the stems of weeds which made it much easier to pry them out of the soil. The Hori Hori knife doesn’t have this notch. I bought two Hori Hori knives so I may modify one of them to add a notch just to see if I can replicate that feature. All in all, the Hori Hori is a very useful tool (even without the notch) and I would recommend it to every gardener.

Landscaping Tools – Reviews
I’ve owned a lot of pairs of loppers and I always seem to break or bend the handles. Not so with the Fiskars. I am a strong healthy guy and I can cut through anything I can get into the jaws. This includes branches dead or alive up to 2 inches. I have been using my Fiskars for the last three years for cutting ski and hiking trails in Maine and they continue to perform better than anything I’ve ever used in the past. Another benefit are the bright orange handle ends. I used to tie surveyors flagging to my tools so I wouldn’t loose them if I put them down in heavy brush. The Fiskars handles are always visable and easy to find inspite of my absentmindedness. The price at Amazon is the best I’ve seen by $10-20. Having used this tool hard for the last three summers, I don’t think I will ever have to get another pair of loppers again.
A. Chandler
I don’t write that many reviews, but this product is worth raving about.
For years now I’ve been using various cutting tools for handling the wild area behind my house. Every piece of every tree I cut down either winds up going through the chipper or becomes firewood. So in building the arsenal to do all that efficiently, having a good pair of loppers is essential. This model is nothing less than superb. The chief features to me are:
1. Most importantly, the outer tips of the blades are beveled, thereby preventing them from ever overlapping as the cut is being made so as to prevent them from destroying themselves via chipping the edges. My old cutters failed to have this feature, and I had to constantly watch each and every cut, and I *still* had chipped blades due to this overlapping.
2. Very light.
3. Very strong. The aluminum handles are shaped so as to use the minimum material while maximizing strength along the plane where the force is exherted. My last loppers seemed pretty beefy, but I eventually broke one of the fiberglass handles in half, so metal handles are a must in my book.
4. Cuts like butter, and handles anything piece of wood that will fit in the jaws. The gear action is smooth and highly effective.
5. Easy to spot in the brush thanks to the orange highlights, and in general a very attractive tool.
John Morrison
Easy to use and a plus to all the outher reviues. Ran into a piece of barb wire last fall clearing brush for my daughter, put a nick in the cutter, broke my heart. Called fiskars got 2 new blades about $7/00 each friendly courtious service. I have been logging firewood this summer and these are about as handy as another hand. I dont know if I could break them but I have made them squeek like the log splitter
